1980 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II

12k Miles from New, The Very Best!!

$59,800

Harry's Thoughts

This has to be one of the nicest Silver Shadow II's extant. With 12,000 original miles and superbly kept, this is a magnificent example to add to a prominent collection. Low mileage original collector cars are the most valuable examples, and this certainly is the best.

THE ESSENTIALS

This is absolutely one of the most pristine original examples of the 1980 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II with a mere 12,390 miles from new.  This was the last year of the Silver Shadow IIs and this particular car has long been referred to as “simply the best example to be found anywhere in the world”.  It is in nearly showroom condition in every regard and runs and drives as new.   We love the Silver Sand over Walnut livery which is both elegant and timeless.

This Silver Shadow II was built in June of 1980 and by October 11, 1990, had accumulated 6,876 miles with one very long-time owner.  By 2020, this Rolls had accumulated 11,399 miles and was sold by Daniel Schmidtt & Co out of St. Louis to Stephen Stefano of Emerald Isle, NC.   It has now accumulated 12,399 miles and has been very well maintained both cosmetically and mechanically.  This Silver Shadow would be very competitive on the showfield or spectacular for using and enjoying on drives or tours.

The Silver Shadow II was the ultimate in luxury, with power seats, mirrors, windows, split level air conditioning, disc brakes, a sophisticated suspension that provided an incredible ride for its passengers and ample power from its powertrain.

The livery is nearly as new in Silver Sand over Walnut.  The paint has excellent shine and luster with only a few small paint chips and normal minute lacquer cracks in areas with factory leaded seams.  The chrome and stainless are in showroom condition.  The white wall radials look great against the Walnut paint.  All the lenses and trim are in excellent as new condition.

The Beige leather interior is complimented with Walnut piping and the light beige carpet has Walnut Mouton sheepskin overlays that are also in excellent condition.  The leather is soft and supple and is in spectacular original condition.  The driver’s seat is in exceptional condition.  The burl walnut wood is in nearly perfect original condition with only a couple of very small cracks that are only noticeable upon close inspection.  The Blaupunkt Frankfurt Am/FM stereo is complimented by the Pioneer Cassette unit.

The engine compartment is also in showroom condition and features the venerable Rolls-Royce 6.75-liter V8.  Mechanically, this Rolls has been fastidiously maintained.  The last owner is still searching for the file, which was comprehensive but has now been misplaced.  The air conditioning and all components work as new.  We hope to have it located for inclusion in its sale.  Included in the sale are the tools, fire extinguisher and car cover.

Interesting Fact: The Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow is a full-sized luxury car produced by British automaker Rolls-Royce in various forms from 1965 to 1980. It was the first of the marque to use unitary body and chassis construction. The Silver Shadow II was produced from 1977 to 1980. To date, the combined model run (Silver Shadow I + Silver Shadow II) has the largest production volume of any Rolls-Royce.   In 1977, the model was renamed the Silver Shadow II in recognition of several major changes, most notably rack and pinion steering; modifications to the front suspension improved handling markedly. Externally, the bumpers were changed from chrome to alloy and rubber starting with the late 1976 Silver Shadows. These new energy-absorbing bumpers had been used in the United States since 1974, as a response to tightening safety standards there. Nonetheless, the bumpers on cars sold outside of North America were still solidly mounted and protruded 2 in (5 cm) less. Also now made standard across the board was the deletion of the small grilles mounted beneath the headlamps. Outside of North America, where tall curbs and the like demanded more ground clearance, a front skirt was also fitted to the Silver Shadow II and its sister cars.   In 1979, 75 Silver Shadow II cars were specially fitted to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the company with the original red "RR" badges front and rear, pewter/silver paint, grey leather with red piping, scarlet red carpets, and a silver commemorative placard on the inside of the glove box door. Approximately 33 75th anniversary cars were designated for and shipped to the North American market, making this an extremely rare find for collectors around the world!
